Police in Swindon recently revealed that they had plans which would help crack down on bike theft in the area.
According to reports from officers, numerous mountain bikes have been stolen from Walcot and the Parks.
A community officer reported that recently, there has been an increase in the theft of both high and low value bikes.
The officer added that CCTV cameras can provide them with descriptions of the offenders. Even witnesses can help with identifying offenders; however, by the time the police reach the place, the bikes are gone. The police do not want criminals making money from these situations, so their aim is to make it less attractive for criminals.
As a result, a new database has been set up for police to store details of bikes. There are also security markings which are visible only under UV lights so that stolen bikes can be identified.
But bike owners looking for extra security have been advised to buy bike insurance policies. Even without bike theft, owners are being asked to take out bike cover so that they can be compensated for other misfortunes like accidental damage and collisions.
