Police in Melton have launched a crackdown on mini motorbike riders who are causing safety concerns in the area.
According to reports, police received numerous complaints from locals who alleged that the mini motorbikes were being driven across roads and pavements in residential areas.
Other reports arising from the complaints made suggested that parks and other family amusement or public areas were not spared by the bikers.
Police now say that they will resort to seizing vehicles driven recklessly with no bike insurance or due care and attention to pedestrians.
Sgt Lee Morris, of Melton police, said: "We've had complaints on the Egerton estate and the Leicester Road estate. We've seized two mini-motos so far and any more complaints will be taken seriously and the people identified will have theirs seized as well.
"Youths ride them everywhere, across roads, pavements and parks. They sound like hairdryers so there's the noise aspect to consider as well.
"They're not toys. Riders have to have a licence, insurance and tax. We've had youths riding around without helmets. Not only are they putting themselves at risk but members of the public, too."
He further added: "The best way to stop them is to seize their bikes. To get one back costs £105 plus daily charges. If bikes haven't been claimed within 21 days they can be crushed. We would urge youths to think about what they're doing and how it might affect others."
