British bikers who successfully take part in a new ‘Enhanced Driver Scheme’ will benefit from reduced motorcycle insurance premium, according to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).
In a statement posted on their website, DSA says that this is an opportunity for bikers to save money on the cost of their insurance premiums.
DSA has teamed up with leading bike insurance companies to offer riders who qualify under the ‘Enhanced Rider Scheme’ cheaper insurance premiums.
Already, a national network of DSA Registered Post test Motorcycle Trainers (RPMT) has been set up to deliver rider skills assessments and training to those keen on taking part in the Enhanced Rider Scheme.
The ERS scheme is a newly introduced training package aimed at meeting the Government Motorcycling Strategy and was launched to ensure reduced numbers of fatal and serious injury road accidents caused by motorcyclists each year.
DSA also explained that riders assessed as having no significant weaknesses receive a 'DSA Certificate of Competence - Enhanced Rider Bonus', which entitles them to insurance discounts while those who show significant weaknesses will go through structured training and will receive the certificate upon successful improvement.
ERS will also be used as a means to encourage and help qualified riders reduce accidents and become even safer on the roads.
A similar incentive can be found in the US, where insurance companies are said to offer discounts on premiums when riders successfully complete a recognized motorcycle safety course.
