Nuisance bikers are keeping police in Chester busy as they fail to heed repeated calls to stop using mini motos or quad bikes irresponsibly and without insurance cover or other documentation.
Reports said people using bikes anti-socially are causing problems for residents, forcing the police to issue further warnings to people who ride without bike insurance, licence or on unauthorised places.
“We have issued several warnings about the use of these motorbikes and yet we are still experiencing problems in the area,” said Inspector Ian Thorp, of Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit.
He explained that they recently had two court cases in which the judge upheld their decision to seize bikes that were being pushed on the pavement without insurance.
Although the owners argued the bikes were only being pushed on the pavement, he said the judge ruled that pushing on the pavement constituted being used on the highway and ruled in favour of the police.
He warned that police will not hesitate to act against anyone found riding or pushing bikes without documentation or irresponsibly on a pavement.
