In Fort Wayne, Indiana, there has been a response to the growing concerns of the operations of scooters and mopeds, especially when they have no bike insurance. Fort Wayne Police department have decided on a ‘Selective Traffic Enforcement Campaign’, to curb the illegal use and operation of such vehicles.
Several state statutes and local ordinances govern the legal usage of mopeds and scooters on public thoroughfares. It is a common occurrence for officers to find violations dealing with engine size, speed, licensing and insurance.
The enforcement campaign will be conducted in an attempt to educate the public on the laws governing operation, equipment and insurance cover concerning these vehicles. The second phase of the campaign will be to actively ‘stop, tow and then cite’ for all violations. A vehicle that is impounded due to no insurance and licensing requirements must be corrected prior their release.
