Bikers in Trimley, Felixstowe should do more to protect their bikes following an increase in motorcycle thefts.
Bike insurance policyholders in the area are facing a growing risk of bike thefts with latest reports showing that at least three machines have been stolen in the twin villages of St Mary and St Martin in recent weeks.
Andy Coe, a member of Ipswich Motorcycle Club Trials is said to have returned home to St Martin to find that his Beta Rev3 270 and Honda TLR 200 models, missing from his shed.
It is also alleged that local man John Arnold had a custom-made £10,000 Harley Davidson machine stolen two weeks ago. Peter Highfield, a resident also believes that his uninsured motorbike was stolen from a garage.
According to police in Suffolk, a criminal gang could be behind the recent spate of bike thefts in the areas. Mr Highfield was quoted saying: “We have also had a motorbike stolen from a garage, a competition bike that was not insured. It's time more was done about this kind of crime.”
Residents are now urged to ensure they fit strong locks to garages, sheds and outbuildings in order to curb bike theft. Bikers are further advised to park their machines in well-lit, open areas.
