Spring Bank Holiday Monday is usually the biggest day for bike insurance claims, according to an insurance provider.
Figures released by Norwich Union suggested that there may be a surge in the number of bike insurance claims made in yesterday’s Bank Holiday after its research found that May’s Bank Holiday is the worst time for accidents involving motorbikes.
The insurance provider expects to see a 50 per cent increase in the number of motorbike accidents on the holiday as an increasing number of motorcyclists take to the UK roads.
The firm advised motorcyclists to take appropriate safety measures while other motorists were urged to be more vigilant and aware.
Nigel Bartram, senior motor underwriting manager at Norwich Union, said: “Our claims data shows that accidents are more likely to happen at this time of year. We are urging motorcyclists to be more careful, but equally want to make drivers more aware of the increase in motorbikes that will be filling the road.”
“Checking for blind-spots, being aware of bikes overtaking or undertaking and being extra careful when opening doors and pulling out, are just some of the simple steps that drivers can take,” he added.
