Police in Penarth and Cosmeston have launched a campaign to reduce the number of people driving without bike insurance after a growing number of complaints were filed from residents.
According to the residents of Penarth and Cosmeston, and those walking along the countryside, there has been an increased use of motorbikes in the area which have been of great nuisance.
Residents stated that the ongoing noise and out of control use of the vehicles is making their lives a misery.
Penarth Neighbourhood Acting Inspector Steve Trigg said: “This is an issue which is becoming increasingly widespread. I want to reassure the residents of lower Penarth and Cosmeston that this matter is being taken very seriously, and I aim to stamp it out before a serious accident occurs.”
He added that those purchasing a “motorbike for use on common land” must ensure their vehicle is insured.
So far, officials have stated that a number of those breaching the regulations of the Road Traffic Act could face having their vehicles seized.
Trigg warned that “If checked and found not to be insured, then the riders will be prosecuted and the motorbikes can be confiscated and crushed after seven days if a valid insurance certificate is not produced.”
