Bikers in South-East London are more likely to fall victim to bike theft compared to any other major city in Britain, a new survey has found.
A test conducted by the bike insurance provider, More Than, studied 10 UK cities to test how long it takes a thief to take an unlocked cycle in order to draw attention to the importance of securing a bike properly.
The study found that the biggest hotspot for bike theft was at London Bridge railway station in south-east London where the bike was stolen in just 17 minutes.
Glasgow was the second worst city for bike theft where the bike had lasted one hour and 30 minutes, third came Birmingham in just under two hours.
Marketing director Pete Markey said: "The experiment has shown us that it doesn't matter who you are or where you live: if you don't take the necessary precautions, it's only a matter of time before your bike is stolen.
It really does make sense then to ensure your bike is secured properly to an immovable object before you leave it unattended, and to think about taking out insurance cover just in case the worst should happen."
