Bikers in the UK want the national speed limits on the motor ways increased. These findings are attributed to a recent survey conducted by bike insurance provider Swinton, which surveyed 2000 bike insurance customers. 1840 claimed that on national motorways, they would like to see an increase in the national speed limits.
Out of those who were in agreement with a change in the national speed limits, 822 respondents claimed that the new speed limit should be 80 mph. 231 out of 1840 believe that the new speed limit should be 90 mph, while 176 out of 1840 however thought that the speed limit should be raised to 100 mph on motorways.
Approximately 184 to 200 motorists claimed that they would like to see European styled Autobahns, which have no speed constraints at all, on motorways.
Out of those interviewed, 1360 admitted that on A roads, 60 mph was an acceptable speed. While 600 agreed that 30 mph was an acceptable speed in residential areas, 220 respondents claimed that speed should be further reduced to 20 mph. The head of Swinton bike insurance expressed his conformity with the current national speed restrictions. He said that the speed limits in the UK have been put into place to protect road users and ensure pedestrian safety.
