Due to rising bike thefts, cyclists in Cambridge are being encouraged to take suitable security measures to avoid bike theft incidents.
Police in the region are reacting to the increasing concern by influencing people on two-wheels to mark their bike, to deter thefts.
It is thought that the increase is due to thieves targeting thousands of newer students who arrive in the city and select to cycle.
A spokesperson from Cambridge city council is presently calling for safer bike parking bays to be installed in the area. He said that he is quite worried about the major outbreak of thieves during the autumn and the high robbery figures through 2009.
Besides marking two wheels, cyclists can also consider taking bike insurance to offer them extra protection, just in case they fall victim to bike theft.
According to the recent statistics of October, Cambridge observed a 15 percent increase in the total number of bike thefts. Having your bike marked can greatly help the police to reunite your bike with you, if it has been stolen.
According to estimation, 500,000 bikes are stolen every year in Britain. While it is generally accepted that cyclists must aim to spend around 10 percent of the bike’s value on a stout lock, there is no alternative for insurance.
