Bike Insurance - Setting bike insurance premiums

Bike insurance has become mandatory in most countries today due to the increasing number of bikers on the roads.

As the number of motorbikes on roads has increased, so have the possibilities of accidents.

For this reason, motorbike riders and owners are required to get an appropriate insurance for their bikes and themselves. Bike insurance quotes consider the assessment of risk and the two main factors involved are the rider and the motorbike.

Important factors regarding the rider for bike insurance

Age of the rider- This is one of the most important factors when bike insurance is issued to riders. Generally a middle age rider would be more trusted than a younger rider.

Location of the rider- The place where the rider will mostly ride the bike is also taken into account to decide a premium. The reason being, city areas pose more dangerous than country or town areas.

Riding record- Another important factor for determining the insurance premium is the riding record. This would include the number of tickets the rider has been issued and the reasons for them.

Rider experience- The rider’s level of experience is also considered when setting a premium for bike insurance. For instance, with a professional rider the risk would be minimum, but with a beginner, there would be considerable amount of risk.

Accident record of the rider- This is definitely one of the most important things when setting a premium. Insurance companies are more likely to trust people who are more careful and less accident prone as it can determine the risk rating.

Occupation of the rider- Even the occupation of the rider is considered as it verifies the rider’s creditability. This is because it will show hoe stable and regular the rider will be when it comes to paying the bike insurance premiums.

Important factors considering the bike that influence premiums

Model and Make- The model and make of the motorbike are important factors in getting bike insurance. Insuring a racing bike would involve more risk factors as compared to a regular motorbike.

Value of the motorbike- This would refer to the bike’s original value which will vary with the model and make of the bike. Just like a sports bike would cost more than a regular bike, so the premium for a sports bike would be much more than that paid for a regular one.

Modifications to the original model- If the original model of the bike has been modified, it will involve more financial risk. This is because modifications to a bike can sometimes cost almost half the cost of the bike.

Location of the bike- This is perhaps one of the most important factors when setting a premium for bike insurance. Whether the bike has a garage or not and where it is being garaged is very important for the premium. This is because it can help assess risk factors like theft and vandalism.

Once all these factors are taken into consideration and properly assessed can insurance companies settle on a premium that is suitable for both, the company and the rider.
