According to a high street retailer for car insurance, the new school term has caused a significant increase in the number of car insurance claims.
The report came from Swinton, one of UK’s top car insurance retailers, who saw car insurance claims increase by an average of 10% during the first few weeks of the school year.
The insurance provider conducted a poll on 1000 of its customers and discovered that 63% of parents prefer to drive their children to school and see them through the school gates over letting them walk with friends or take the bus.
As the new school year begins with parents hurrying to drop children off, roads are being hit with busy school traffic.
Swinton listed five dangers linked with the daily school run.
It stated that stopping to wave children off to school in dangerous places is the first on the list.
The second danger is children opening car doors into oncoming traffic.
It also stated that stopping abruptly to drop children at schools when running late, talking through the rear view mirror to children is also likely to cause accidents.
The last was said to be waving to children and pulling onto the road simultaneously.
Swinton’s insurance development manager, Steve Chelton said that if parents want to avoid unwanted traffic, parents should start their school run early.
He added that drivers should be alert while driving in school zones as they are dangerous places.
