Car Insurance - Couples can save on car insurance - 05/03/2008

The easiest way to save money on your car insurance policy if you are part of a couple is to take out a joint policy. This news comes from Sainsbury’s Bank as car insurance premiums rise.

TescoCompare.com has revealed that 65% of married and cohabiting couples do not tell their insurance providers they live together, which could result in a cheap car insurance policy. £100 on average could be saved if people add their partners on their policy as an additional driver.

Paul Baxter, a spokesman for the company, said: "There are many things drivers can do to lower their annual car insurance premium and adding your partner can be a very effective way of cutting costs.

"Car insurers assess the individual risk profile of each customer and couples living together typically carry a lower risk, resulting in lower premiums." 48% of couples do not inform their insurer they are living together until their renewal date comes around, a further 17% never mention this fact to their insurer.
