Car Insurance - Rising fuels costs could increase 'eco-driving' insurance policies - 27/06/2008

The increasing cost of fuel is likely to lead to more interest in car insurance policies which reward 'green' driving, according to a leading insurer.

Insurance provider, More Than, has forecast a rise in popularity of its policies where premiums are dependent on such things as careful usage of brakes, acceleration and control of speed.

Cars are supplied with a 'green box' which measures these factors and places the drivers into different categories. Motorists are awarded an eco-rating from A to G with the more environmentally aware drivers falling into the first category in which they pay a reduced premium.

Dowshan Humzah, product director at More Than, said an insurance policy that helps reduce the cost of running a car is expected to be a hit with consumers.

"Many people simply cannot afford to be without their vehicles, but neither can they afford to sustain the cost of motoring," he said.

"Instead, people will soon be looking for other ways to reduce costs, and the role insurance plays in this is important."
