A recent research conducted on young drivers showed that a quarter of the drivers were found to have driven without car insurance, a driver’s licence and a MOT certificate.
In fact, a number of these drivers were also said to break the speed limit often. The survey was carried out in association with a charity for road safety, as part of a campaign to protect young drivers.
Despite the fatal car accidents, it was discovered that a considerable number of young drivers decide to drive illegally.
Even considering the many road safety campaigns that have illustrated the disturbing effects of irresponsible driving, 35% of these drivers admitted to breaking speed limits regularly. In addition to this, 25% said that they race with friends through city streets.
About half of the young drivers said that they text or talk on their mobile phones while driving. And 18% owned up to overtaking on blind bends or taking part in other dangerous driving strategies. These dangers have been highlighted by the 5% who said that they do not wear seat belts.
Commenting on the survey results, a car insurance director said that more had to be done in order to make young drivers better aware of the devastating consequences irresponsible driving can have.
Such risk taking and inexperience could probably lead to injuring or killing others on the road. For this reason, young drivers are being urged to get young driver’s car insurance and drive legally as well.
