Many motorists are falling foul of hidden charges in their car insurance policies. Drivers are often finding they are liable to pay £150 or more for basic services they assumed they were already covered for, according to a survey.
It is believed that big insurers are making £200 million yearly by including these clauses in cheap car insurance policies. Drivers are initially lured in with low annual premium prices, but are failing to draw attention to the small print, where £50 upwards is charges for vital services.
These services were once provided routinely in insurance basic packages, these include, driving abroad, courtesy cars and address changes. KwikGuides.com, an online service for motorists, said that one in ten of us move house each year, putting money into the pockets of car insurers as well as estate agents.
7.5 million drivers are caught out with extra charges when they try to amend the details their insurer holds about them.
