The car insurance industry is booming online and is becoming more vital for insurers to gain new business. This is according to comScore, who said that last year 32 million quotes for car insurance were requested online.
This figure shows a 15% increase on quotes online in 2006. Two million policies were purchased through websites in 2007, this is an increase of 37%.
Kevin Levitt, comScore’s vice president said: "The rapid growth of the internet demonstrates the importance of a multi-channel approach that includes the ability to request quotes, purchase policies and service accounts online."
The company has also acknowledged that the shift towards online purchases of car insurance policies first began in 2006. A recent study by Harris Interactive and Witeck-Combs Communications also showed that 17% of homosexual customers choose to purchase their car insurance online compared with 8% of heterosexual customers.
