Young drivers have been told they can now lower their premiums by “topping up” their licenses by taking extra driving courses.
Research has shown the males under the age of 20 are 10 times more likely to cause or be in an accident than those over 35, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Because of this increased risk car insurance premiums are usually very high for the young, especially males. However, taking an extra course in driving may be a way for some people to save money.
At the cost of 100 to 200 young people will be able to take driving courses offered by the Driving Standards Agency with the help of insurers and driving instructors.
The lessons called, Pass Plus, should offer some relief from the costly premiums the young are subject to, but drivers are told to carefully check their policy to see if they are eligible for any savings.
