Owing to the fact they are more likely to have larger accidents and be more involved with third parties, men drivers attract higher car insurance premiums compared to their female counterparts, financial service provider, Sheila’s Wheels has said.
Statistics from the Home Office have shown that men are involved in at least 97 per cent of all dangerous driving convictions in the UK and Sheila’s Wheels said the figures confirmed that women drivers are safer than male drivers, as such they can benefit from lower car insurance costs.
Spokesperson for the service provider, Niki Bolton added that more than the males, female drivers are more likely to have lower-value claims like scrapes and bumps.
“Women are becoming more discerning customers, they want good quality car insurance plus one that is well priced for what it offers,” she said, while advising motorists to always search for both good price and high quality products when taking out or renewing their car insurance policies.
In another development a man has been banned from driving for one year by a court in New Ross District, Ireland for driving without insurance.
20-year-old Paul Daly was charged with driving while having no insurance, driving licence or road tax in September 2007.
The court heard the man acquired the car he was driving from his mother and that it had not been insured at the time of his arrest. The accused pleaded guilty to all the charges, but his lawyer pleaded for leniency telling the court that Paul had been bereaved following the tragic death of his father and his partner recently had a baby.
He was disqualified from driving for one year by Judge William Harnet for driving without licence. The court also took the other two charges into consideration and adjourned the case to July 15, 2008 for a community service report and 100 hours of the service was recommended.
