Car Insurance - Environmentally friendly car insurance more popular than ever - 06/04/2008

The number of motorists choosing eco-friendly car insurance is rising steadily according to insurance group MORE TH>N.

22 million drivers have said they would switch to a more environmentally friendly brand of car (a hybrid car) such as the Toyota Prius if it meant cheaper running costs. Nick Dear, external communications consultant with MORE TH>N said this means insurers need to respond to that demand.

He also said that the increasing petrol prices has left 74% of vehicle users “seriously concerned”, something which could be a contributing factor to the rise in popularity of hybrid cars which typically use less fuel than other types of cars.

A survey by car supermarket Motorpoint recently revealed that 3 in 5 people who are buying a new car this year will be purchasing a vehicle that has lower carbon emissions than their last car.

Mr Dear commented that the rise in motorists opting for more environmentally friendly car insurance: "could be in part down to the fact that there are more hybrid cars on the roads these days".
