Car Insurance - Costs of running a family car continue to soar - 08/04/2008

The cost of running a family car is on the increase as motor insurance, road tax and petrol prices continue to soar.

Figures released by the AA show that an average family spent £2,582 filling up two cars with fuel alone. This is a rise of £176 during the last 12 months.

Luke Bosdet, a spokesman from the AA said, “We always tried to allay fears on car fuel prices by saying that it wasn’t how high prices went, but how long they stayed high hoping that they would fall sooner rather than later. A £1 litre average over the past 12 months shows that UK families are enduring an unprecedented ordeal of soaring prices.”

This rise in fuel prices comes on the back of an increase in car insurance policies and road tax at a time when people are being stretched financially. Council tax, electricity, gas and water costs have also shot up leaving many having to dig deep during this period of economic uncertainty.
