If you are planning to do any sort of overseas driving this year, it is important to make sure that you have the sufficient car insurance cover.
Moneysupermarket.com is currently instructing drivers to study their insurance cover carefully before making any decision to drive in a foreign country.
Moneysupermarket.com state that “39% of motorists are unaware their motor insurance may be automatically downgraded from comprehensive to third party when driving in Europe.” Half of the UK’s leading Car insurers instantly reduce their cover when their customers drive overseas.
If you happen to be insured by Barclays, Esure, Direct line then you are particularly at risk. The worrying scenario is that if the unfortunate was to happen, whilst driving in a foreign country, when you go to claim from your insurer, it may be a great shock to the system to then find out that you are not covered. This being due to the fact that your insurance has been reduced from fully comprehensive to third party.
For anyone who drives regularly in the European continent, it may be wise to shop around for an insurer that provides the same amount of cover outside of the UK.
