Car Insurance - Young drivers set to benefit from advanced driving courses - 12/05/2008

The government are set to launch new plans to encourage people to continue improving on their driving skills as they get older. As a result, young drivers may find themselves saving as much as £500 a year on their car insurance if they take the proposed advanced driving lessons.

The course, developed by the Driving Standards Agency , will feature motorway driving and a high speed emergency brake test.

The average novice driver will currently be paying insurance premiums of up to £2,000 a year, but it is expected that these costs will be reduced by 25 per cent if the motorist has completed the advanced driving course.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association said, “Additional training will be welcomed both by road safety campaigners and drivers themselves. With the average insurance premium for a new male driver at £1,200, anything that can reduce these costs is bound to be popular.”
