If you are interested in modifying your car it is vital to take out the relevant car insurance, most insurers are not happy to insure such cars as they see them being at greater risk of accidents or theft.
If you make alterations to your vehicle, you must inform your insurance provider they will send you a modified car insurance policy with a note of the amendments.
If you fail to notify your provider you will not be insured and any claim will be unsuccessful, some modification are unlikely to increase your premiums, changes like adding alloy wheels or blackening of windows shouldn’t be a problem, but verify this with your insurer.
The modifications seen as major by insurers include changes to the engine, exhaust and lowering the suspension.
The amount of your policy will vary depending what car you had to start with, who you opt to take insurance out with and your age. and pay lower premiums.
