Car Insurance - Travelling abroad? Ensure you are insured - 05/06/2008

When taking your car abroad it is essential to ensure that you have the right insurance cover or you risk driving uninsured. For many this will involving topping up their insurance by purchasing a green card.  Although some insurance policies do offer some level of cover for travel abroad already built into the policy. #

To ensure that people do check their insurance cover, the AA Ireland has issued a statement warning drivers that they may not have the same level of car insurance, if driving their own vehicle through the Republic of Ireland. Some insurers may only cover cars for third party damage, fire and theft whilst travelling in the Republic of Ireland, even if they have fully comprehensive insurance in the UK.

In addition motorists are being advised to check they have adequate breakdown cover as this may also only be valid in the UK.
