Car Insurance - Think of car insurance before modifications - 10/09/2008

Motorists have been advised to think about their car insurance before making any modifications to their vehicles.

Tesco car insurance has reminded drivers that they have to let their insurance provider know of any changes they make to their vehicle as they could alter the premiums customers pay and even small changes could make any insurance claims void if the insurer does not know about them beforehand.

A recent study by the insurance provider found that 15% of drivers in the UK had modified their car in some way, with that figure increasing to 22% in Norwich. It is thought that television shows such as Tim Westwood's Pimp My Ride UK have increased the popularity of vehicle alterations.

Allan Burns, head of Tesco car insurance, remarked: "What we are encouraging people to do is to let their insurance provider know what modifications have been made so that they have the right vehicle cover."
