Drivers have been warned that they need to let their car insurance providers know of any modifications made to the car, as it could affect their insurance premiums.
The recent poll conducted by Tesco discovered that nearly 15 percent of drivers have made a modification their car in some way. This could prove very costly to the modifiers as any claim could be made void if the insurer wasn’t made aware of the modification.
Head of Tesco Car Insurance Alan Burns "What we are encouraging people to do is to let their insurance provider know what modifications have been made so that they have the right vehicle cover."
Modifications such as alloy wheels and custom paint jobs are becoming more popular as a result of the British T.V show pimp my ride hosted by radio one D.J Westwood who also had a word of warning for the kids.
"Kids are self customizing. It's all about DIY - fitting your own sound system, adding more lights [and] body kits." He added: "I've never had anything stolen from a ride-but I'm very careful where I park…I'm not saying it will never happen, but I do a lot to protect my cars."
