Car Insurance - Parents urged to use car seats for younger passengers - 03/10/2008

According to recent figures from the car insurance providers LV= and Direct Line, up to a quarter of parents do not use the car seats for their young children when they are in the vehicle, while even more parents don’t check the safety of the car seat.

The new law, which states that children under the age of 12-years or shorter than 4’5’’, should use a child or booster seat, when they are in a motor. Statistics show that without this seating the risk of a fatal accident or injury rises by 69 per cent and 71 per cent respectively. However 21 per cent of drivers have said that they were unaware of these laws and 24 per cent admitted that they don’t check the safety of their child’s car seat.

The condition of car seat can be affected even in a low speed collision, however 20 per cent of parents were said to believe that the seat would need replacing even after such as event.
