Making use of eco-friendly driving techniques can reduce car expenses, according to the British School of Motoring (BSM), car insurance customers may like to know.
Extra car expenses such as car insurance, fuel and maintenance has forced great strain on motorists due to the current economic crisis and with the winter season approaching fast, motorists can only make sure their vehicles are safe to drive.
Robin Cummins, road safety consultant revealed that there are ways for motorists to save their money. Planning ahead is one way to reduce costs. Mr Cummins said that less fuel is used when motorists gradually remove their foot from the accelerator instead of slamming on the breaks.
With the winter season approaching, insurers have advised motorists to check their tyre tread as their insurance cover can be invalidated if it’s not maintained, causing higher costs. Driving slower could also help save up to £500 per year according to What Car? magazine.
TyreSafe’s Rob Beddis said “when the rainfall increases they often find themselves in a situation where the tyres have insufficient tread depth to disperse the water from the road surface properly”.
Earlier this year insurers advised motorists to ensure they have adequate car insurance whilst more recently, it was revealed that more parents are committing fraud by providing incorrect details on insurance policies for their children in order to cut costs.
