Car Insurance - Younger drivers go for costly cars - 06/11/2008

Younger drivers have been found to be taking our car insurance for “inappropriate” cars, despite the higher car insurance premium that are associated with this choice.

A large proportion of young motorists are choosing to buy cars with larger, more powerful engines rather than smaller engines which can be much cheaper to insure. The greatest demographic group that use comparison websites are people that are aged 17-21 year-old, who make up 63 per cent of the users, and most of them were found to be looking for quotes on cars with engines bigger than 1250cc.

Younger car insurance customers were informed that while they are are savvy about using comparison sites to get a better deal on their insurance, the majority still haven't got the message that ‘small is beautiful' when it comes to choosing a car.

They were also advised to shop around for car insurance premiums as the 17-23 year-olds stands to make significant savings because policies for the same risk can vary by hundreds of pounds.
