An insurance advert featuring rock singer Iggy Pop has been banned after it was revealed that the insurance policy was not available to those in entertainment, it has been revealed.
According to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the car insurance advert, from the insurer Swiftcover, is misleading as it does not offer the insurance to rock stars.
The ASA stated that the insurer’s website claimed that it does not cover those working in the entertainment industry.
The ASA said: "We noted that Swiftcover was using a well-known musician and entertainer, Iggy Pop, to promote their online car insurance service, but that their website specified they did not cover drivers working part or full-time in entertainment.”
The ASA also revealed that the Iggy does not have a Swiftcover account despite the TV advert featuring the singer saying “I got it Swiftcovered. I got insurance on my insurance.”
It said that “some viewers might interpret ['I got it Swiftcovered. I got insurance on my insurance!'] to mean Iggy Pop held a policy with Swiftcover and that their insurance cover did extend to musicians and those who worked in the entertainment industry."
The ASA has now banned the advert after receiving a growing number of complaints from viewers.
