Car drivers haven been found to be avoiding purchasing a more environmentally friendly car due to pricing concerns a new report has found.
Green vehicle guide TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk has stated that the price of running an electronic car is far inflated than that of a regular petrol model. In fact one in three Brits would like to upgrade if it wasn’t for the price.
The website's editor Faye Sunderland commented: "As it stands there is not enough incentive to the consumer to select the greenest variant of a car model; more needs to be done to support the sale of green cars."
Car drivers as a result would like to be rewarded for opting for more environmental friendly vehicles and have requested cheaper insurance for their trouble.
Although it has been found that many drivers would pay that little bit extra to fund a greener vehicle, they would like reduced premiums for car insurance.
The Virgin Money Car Insurance poll showed that 41% of drivers would pay more for a more suitable motor vehicle but 73% said they wanted to see cuts come their way in other forms.
Jason Wyer-Smith of Virgin Money Car Insurance said: "It is encouraging that drivers want to go green and are willing to put their money where their mouths are by paying a bit extra.
"However there needs to be more carrot and less stick to encourage more people to make the move into lower carbon emission motoring. Insurers can do their bit by looking at special deals for greener cars but the government has to play its part too."
