Motorists planning to head for the Glastonbury Festival are being warned to ensure they check their insurance cover.
According to a price comparison website, about 128,000 of those attending the festival will be travelling by car.
The website warned that the travellers taking their personal items such as iphones, navigation systems, ipods, mobile phones and sunglasses, must ensure their items are covered under their car insurance policy as 60 per cent of insurers offer a maximum cover of just £100 on valuables left in vehicles.
Spokesperson Mark Monteiro of the price comparison website said: “Placing all your valuables in a car or tent could very well exempt you from cover with every insurance policy you own.
Our advice to motorists is to check all policy details before getting into the car, and then enjoy the music with peace of mind.”
Ian Crowder, of AA Insurance, advised motorists to “take as little as possible” and avoid taking ipods and other gadgets to the festival by opting for a new CDs instead.
He said: “Although some car insurance policies cover SatNavs, equipment must always be locked away out of sight. The best advice is to take as little as possible to Glastonbury: a few CDs for the journey, and a camera kept with you at all times.”
