Saga car insurance, has found that 46 per cent of motorists enjoy driving, just for the fun of it.
According to the over-50's insurance specialist, it is not only older drivers who enjoy motoring, and with several motorists looking to save money with driving holidays, the insurer is urging drivers to make sure that they are covered and ready for their longer driving journeys.
A survey that was conducted found that three in every four drivers do not take emergency equipment if their vehicle breaks down, while others don't take details of their breakdown cover, when their on the road.
According to Saga car insurance, it is the under 50s who are the most unprepared when they set off on their journeys. The firm stated that the interests among some of the younger drivers lie with what they have taken their stereo system.
Also Saga car insurance found that 62 per cent of younger drivers ensure they have entertainment for the journey whilst 61 per cent fail to check their spare tyre. In contrast, more than half of the over-50s checked their spare tyre before setting off.
Andrew Goodsell, the executive chairman of Saga Group, said: "It is good to see that people still enjoy driving their cars for pleasure and don't just view them as a means of getting from A to B.
He added: "It would seem that the under 50s could learn much from more experienced drivers when it comes to preparing their cars, and themselves, ahead of a long journey."
