Recent studies have shown that a shocking number of British drivers are risking their cheap car insurance due to their ignorance of road signs.
The research showed that about 65% of motorists could not identify the sign for ‘no vehicles’ correctly.
At the same time, around 62% of drivers were not capable of identifying a marker meant for a zone that limited speed to 30mph.
Of the number of people who were questioned, only 3% could actually recognise five rules which were set out in the Highway Code.
The survey seems to have highlighted a disturbing lack of awareness for road rules and this could have major implications for cheap car insurance.
Some of the other results from the survey show that 23% of the motorists do not consider pedestrians as their main concern when reversing into a side road.
A handful of drivers also said that they were not completely sure of the correct u-turn procedure. 23% said that the first course of action would be to signal other drivers in order for them to slow down, which was correct. Another 23% said they would look over their shoulder and 9% said the first reaction would be to give an arm signal.
Motorists who are found flouting road rules could be given penalty points on their licence, fined or prohibited from driving and even given a jail sentence.
