According to a recent survey conducted on UK city motorists, car insurance customers have seen a significant rise in premiums in 2009.
The statistics gathered from UK car insurance customers showed that in the last year, premiums had increased by 14%. The worst increases had been witnessed by city motorists.
The chief reason for the increases in car insurance premiums was due to uninsured motorists. The survey also showed the ten worst places for car insurance in the UK. Of these Oldham topped the list. It was followed by Bradford, Liverpool, Bolton, Bury, Manchester, London, Birmingham, Leeds and finally Wigan.
According to the AA British Insurance Premium Index, the 14% increase is the highest rate rise. Statistics for the average premium on comprehensive car insurance also soared by 5.6% in the third quarter of this year. This happens to be the biggest quarterly increase recorded since 1994, when AA first started monitoring the market.
The increase in car insurance has been said to be felt more by city motorists than rural ones. There is no doubt this is because driving in rural areas seem to pose less threat to car insurance customers than those in cities.
