Tesco Health Insurance Goes for £1.50 per Day - 14/05/2008

Tesco Health Insurance has announced that its health insurance policy could be purchased from as little as £.1.50 a day.
The company, basing its estimates on a customer living outside London with an excess of £100 and 35 per cent no claims discount, explained that it has devised what it called an example of what its Core, Premium and Finest cover would cost customers of various ages.
It said that a 20-year-old taking out Core cover was likely to pay £14.97 a month, but that would rise to £20.38 for someone aged 30 and increase to £45.28 for a customer aged 55.
Finest cover, according to it, for a 45-year-old would set them back £67.80, while a customer who is 20 years will pay £32.09 on the average.
Against the above backdrop Tesco suggested that its policies have a combination of value and simplicity, explaining that no medical questions are asked for people under the age of 75 and three levels of cover are offered. It also said that added to the above, a 35 per cent no claims discount is given to new customers.
“Health insurance is about quickly finding out what’s wrong with you and then making sure you have it treated promptly,” said head of Tesco Health Insurance, Jeremy Sutton.
This week Tesco rolled out its life insurance policy for over 50s, which it said would allow customers to leave loved ones a guaranteed tax-free cash lump sum. But the policy has already drawn criticism from ASDA, whose head of insurance, Gideon Ingham, argued it is another product that would make people pay more than their cover will pay out.
