Heart disease is on the rise once more in the UK, after 30 years of it declining. This is according to the University of British Columbia’s research and published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Younger generations are particularly at risk. The rates of heart disease level off for people aged between 35 and 55, and complacency is the main reason of probably causes for this. Over-consumption of fast food, not exercising enough and unhealthy life choices such as smoking and binge drinking are other contributory factors towards this.
According to the study a large number of people who died of unnatural causes had an underlying health problem, for example coronary artery disease.
Other factors that negatively affect the rates of heart disease include the obesity epidemic and rising diabetes levels. The insurance industry is encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle, some insurers are even offering incentives such as free gym membership to keep its customers healthier. The healthier you are, the cheaper your health insurance and life insurance policies will be.
