It seems today all we seem to hear or see are headlines and stories situating around falling staff levels, superbugs and the below standard care in hospitals, to the extent that is seeing many individuals, turning away from the NHS and choosing to go for private cover. Figures provided by the Association of British insurers illustrated that after 10 years of almost non-existence, the number of Briton’s with private medical insurance has seen a huge increase and is still growing and is now over 6 million.
A survey conducted by BUPA also revealed that two thirds of its customers stated that the potential to contract infections such as the dreaded MRSA, was one of the contributing factors as to why they opted to go private. Fiona Harris: head of personal markets at BUPA had this to say “The whole issue of cleanliness has shot up the agenda. People don’t want to be treated in the sort of hospital where you have to keep on your slippers every time you pop to the bathroom.”
Up to two thirds of people with private health insurance, are insured through a company plan, whilst more than a million people make the decision to purchase cover for themselves or their company.
