A recent survey has revealed that more than half of Britain's workforce would consider quitting their job if their employer fails to address workplace health and wellbeing issues.
The findings from the Business Action on Health taskforce indicate that investing in health and wellbeing remains a crucial point in spite of the credit crunch.
Industry leaders comment that the figures show that British employers are increasingly aware of the importance of health and wellbeing.
Justin Crossland, head of health and risk consulting at Towers Perrin, said that health and wellbeing is "critical" to business success.
He added: "Our global workforce survey of more than 90,000 employees shows that the most important engagement driver in the UK is senior leadership taking an active interest in employees' wellbeing and this is currently a lost opportunity for UK plc.''
"From setting key performance indicators and gaining employee buy-in to creating a healthy eating environment, the action pack identifies issues that bosses can address easily and cost effectively to improve the health of their staff."
The Omnibus research for the survey was conducted by YouGov among 1,347 working adults in the UK over three days in September 2007.
