India is proving to be a fore runner in the health insurance sector as they launch a product that protects individuals that were once considered untouchable, even within the most developed of countries. Where most insurance companies shy away from HIV sufferers; Bangalore, a group insurance plan that will cover the cost of treatments as well as other services was launched yesterday in India.
The pilot initiative will provide some R’s 30,000 worth of insurance cover for a group of 250 individuals. The individuals living with HIV will be spread over the 6 districts of Karnataka which include; Bellary, Mangalore, Mandya, Kolar, Mysore and Udupi. Those chosen will be able to enjoy the numerous hospital services that will be provided by the Karnataka Network for Positive People (KNP+), something that has yet to be followed up on an international front.
Those that have suffered with the illness are more than aware for the issues associated with getting the appropriate care under their health cover once they have received their diagnosis.
