There has never been any doubt that the UK is a nation full of animal lovers, however the knowledge that when it comes to the matter of health, Brits are more likely to invest in the health of their furry friends above that of their own is likely to furrow the average brow. Tesco carried out a study on the ways in which individuals handle their personal finances and the outcome was interesting to say the least. The study revealed that there are nearly twice as many policies protecting animals than those protecting the health of their owners.
On a closer inspection the numbers crunched out reveal that 23 per cent of the UK pet population had some form of health cover whereas only 12.2 per cent of the human species in the country had health insurance. While it is not necessarily a direct comparison, as the human population have the NHS as default form of health cover whereas there is no such protection for animals.
What it does show is the level of concern the UK has for the health of their family members that just so happen to have fur. Knowing that ultimately you and your loved ones are the most important people in your world, it makes sense that the entire family enjoys the benefits that come with having private medical insurance (including the human members).
