Reform, the independent think tank whose mission incorporates ways to deliver public services and economic prosperity, via improved ways, suggested the NHS should be scrapped and replaced.
Reform believes that what should stand in for the NHS is a two-tier health insurance system. This suggestion was made after reform found out that the UK had listed bottom in the league table for a range of health indicators. Such results would imply to many a change in the health structure but Reform called for bigger changes.
These changes demanded would see the NHS change to what would be known as a National Health Protection system, where the government’s roles would be restricted to that of a regulator. What this scheme would allow is, each patient would have a tax funded premium of £2,000 to spend with a health insurer of their choice. How people choose to spend would be entirely up to the individual allowing greater choice and competition, whilst providing patients with greater incentives to play a more active role in the progress of their own health.
Reform launched the report with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg this week.
