It has been revealed that the majority of women are either underinsured or have no protection through health insurance cover. In addition, they also have medical debt problems.
A report by the Commonwealth Fund, revealed that seven out of 19 working women have no medical insurance cover or are covered by inadequate cover, making them unable to claim, if ever they need to.
The survey stated that 52 per cent of working women, said they have problems accessing needed healthcare because of the cost, compared to the 29 per cent of men who said so.
Karen Davis the president of the Commonwealth Fund, said: "More families are making difficult choices between needed healthcare, making payments on mortgages or credit card debt, and purchasing basic necessities. This study underscores the need for affordable universal health coverage and protection against catastrophic financial losses."
