A senior medical writer has stated his views about private health insurance.
He noted that although there is very little to like about private health insurance and the way it is, it has a distinct advantage. It is better than government funded medical assistance because it allows women to pay for abortions, he claimed.
He stated his views candidly about anti-abortion groups and its congress allies, saying that they are ‘whittling away’ at this one single pertinent distinction.
According to him, abortion right opponents have an explicit motive in using health reform as a lever of sorts in order to exploit abortion coverage from private health insurance plans.
He said that this could be done by using a proposal for a health insurance exchange. He further added that their ‘vehicle’ for doing this would be an amendment. This bill was allegedly introduced to the original house bill.
It was also revealed recently, that there is a lot of inconsistency in the amount of medical cover that is made accessible to women.
A report by the UN showed that women do not have access to sufficient medical services and need it more often than men do.
The report also mentioned that there were instances where marginalised women and single mothers were not provided with adequate medical support.
