It has been revealed that young adults aged 19 to 29 are the largest demographic without health insurance cover.
Whilst some insurers believe the young do not purchase such protection because they believe they are healthy so do simply not need it, others believe it is because they cannot afford it.
Therefore, experts have stated that the insurance sector has begun to take these factors into account and is working on how to help out with costs and confusion.
Matt Fidler, director of retail marketing at an insurance group said that cover for consumers is difficult: “It’s info overload. Health insurance is one of the few industries that remain very confusing. Don’t assume yourself out of the market just because you think a policy is very expensive.”
He said that his shop offers consumer friendly policies: "Our stores offer one-to-one interaction, taking the customer’s specific situations into account, and try to recommend products that make sense for them based on their situation.”
He and other insurers have therefore advised consumers to shop around for the best policy suitable for them.
