Health Insurance can lead to heated discussions amongst people, and has been categorized as one of the topics you don't bring up at a dinner party if you wish it to be a hassle free evening.
In the first corner you have those who completely believe in the NHS. Backed up by Michael Moore's fantastic documentary "Sicko" where he compares our 'free for all' system to the US 'no pay no care' situation.
It leaves anyone who formerly criticized the NHS thinking themselves lucky upon witnessing a place where most members of society cannot get the help they need when sick.
There is also the argument that if you can afford private health care, why not have it? It leaves the NHS with more time for more people, and knowing your family can be treated swiftly and more comfortably is never a bad thing.
Private hospitals tend not to have for example, casualty departments, which means they are not a second NHS, and you don't always get better care. But it is quicker and you can choose the best time for you to get help, very useful in such a busy city.
That you are still paying for the NHS simply means that it is still there as back up for when times are hard financially.
Some believe they should have a choice as to whether they pay for the NHS, although this would in the long term lead to a US like situation in which most people would not get the help they needed and many would be left in difficulty.
