It was recently revealed that home insurance claims for damage caused by floods due to the extreme weather experienced not too long ago, could result in an industry wide bill of £100 million.
According to reports from the Association of British Insurers, around 1,000 claims have already been made for compensation due to the floods in Southern Scotland and north of England.
The weather is said to have been at its worst in Cumbria. Six bridges collapsed and hundreds of residents from the area had to be evacuated.
However, the total bill is dwarfed by the overall cost of the flooding in 2007, which affected central and southern England. Insurers have claimed that they had to pay out about £3 billion for the storm.
Several Environment Agency officers from across the country have been working to the best of their abilities to reduce flood damage. Homeowners are also being asked to take all kinds of precautions to minimise damage, including taking out proper home insurance.
