Comprehensive home insurance vital in flood risk areas - 24/04/2008
|
The Environment Agency has issued a be-prepared warning to the 2.2 million homes in Britain that are at risk from serious flooding.
After the heavy rain of last summer which saw 50’000 homes flooded, homeowners are being urged to check that they have comprehensive home insurance and the Environment Agency is offering help and advice on how to prevent or minimise the damage that stems from rising water levels.
Although the Met Office has so far predicted a drier summer for 2008, it is impossible to rule out more flooding this year and homeowners in risk-areas are advised to be fully prepared.
“People must be prepared for floods and know what to do if the worst happens,” said Barbara Young of the Environment Agency.
“We strongly advise that every household in a flood risk area has there own plan of action that can be quickly put in place during a flood emergency.”
Worried homeowners can find more information at www.environment-agency.gov.uk or they can call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
